How to Make and Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions for a Healthier You
Every year, people all over the world make New Year’s resolutions with the intention of improving their lives for the better. Whether it’s to eat healthier, exercise more, quit smoking, or achieve a personal goal, resolutions are made with the best intentions. However, research has shown that only a small percentage of people actually keep their resolutions for more than a few weeks. This blog post will provide tips and tricks to help you make and keep your New Year’s resolutions, specifically for getting into better shape.
1. Set Realistic Goals
The first rule of making resolutions is to set realistic goals. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. If you want to lose weight but haven’t exercised in years, set a reasonable goal for yourself. You want to lose weight but not at the expense of your health. Talk to your doctor or a personal trainer to help you set specific and achievable goals. Make a plan, break down your goals into small, achievable tasks and set achievable milestones.
2. Get Support
You’re not alone in your resolution to get into better shape. Find a friend or a group of people who also have similar goals. It will be easier to get motivated if you know someone else is rooting for you. Some gyms even offer fitness classes where you can meet new people and work out with a group.
3. Get Your Gear Ready
A lot of people have exercise equipment that’s been sitting in their storage unit and ready to go. If this is you, it’s time to dust them off and get ready to use them! They should be in excellent condition. Put gym clothes on and get comfortable in your equipment. Keep your exercise equipment in a visible and accessible location to remind you that you’re serious about your resolution.
4. Take it Slow
One of the main reasons why people break their resolutions is because they try to do too much too soon. Making drastic changes all at once can make you feel overwhelmed and stressed. Work on one aspect of your resolution at a time. Once you are comfortable with that step, move on to the next. The ultimate aim is to maintain the good habits over the next year to fulfill the resolution.
5. Be Kind to Yourself
Changing habits is hard work, and it’s okay if you slip up once in a while. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Celebrate the small victories and keep moving forward. It’s also important to understand that lasting change takes time, patience, and perseverance. Don’t give up when the going gets tough!
Making and keeping your New Year’s resolutions for a healthier you can be a challenge, but it’s not impossible. Take it one step at a time, be patient and kind to yourself. Don’t let the setback cause you to give up. Keep working hard, stay motivated and remember why you made the resolution in the first place. Here’s to a healthier and happier you in the new year!
